The murder of Katherine Brown shocked our
community. The story captured headlines in local newspapers and television
broadcasts, prompting a flurry of editorials and op-ed features on
domestic violence in the local media.
Unfortunately,
newspaper editors and television producers don’t recognize the connection
between Katherine Brown and their promotion of violent brutality as
entertainment. Where were the editorial
staffers, when their papers printed multiple page features promoting the film
Hannibal, that opened in theaters
February 9? The same local news anchors who expressed grim remorse for
Katherine Brown's death, and urged action against domestic violence were
promoting the CBS reality show, Survivor 2 which broadcast the graphic slaughter of
a pig as prime time entertainment four weeks later. Read on for more
details.
